March 14th, 1958 – The Recording Industry Association of America Awards its First Gold Record...for OKLAHOMA!
The RIAA got into a shiny habit on this day by handing out its very first gold record to the soundtrack “Oklahoma!” Music suddenly had a new golden standard, and it wasn’t just in color but in records sold.
