Call for Local Artists


The Lawton Farmers Market Institute and the Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery invite artists to participate in the 5th Annual Farmers Market Art Competition. This art competition will feature up to forty artists, and awards totaling up to $900, with a first-place prize of $500.


Artists are asked to register by 4:00 PM on Friday, 31 May 2024. Agriculturally themed artwork is then due for delivery between June 24th and 26th. Details can be found in the official prospectus, along with a registration form, which can be picked up in person at the Leslie Powell Gallery or found on downloaded from the gallery’s website, lpgallery.org/farmers-market-art-show.


This art competition will kick off the Lawton Farmers Market Annual Tomato Festival with an art show reception on Friday, July 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Leslie Powell Gallery. During the reception, the winners will be announced and prizes awarded. The Tomato Festival will be Saturday, July 13th from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Farmers Market, and the Leslie Powell Gallery will be open the same day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The exhibition will then continue through Friday, August 30th.


The Lawton Farmers Market Institute is a local organization, that hosts a weekly market at their location on 4th Street, as well as classes and several festivals. The Tomato Festival itself includes activities such as a salsa contest, the Great Tomato Catch-Up Fun Run, giveaways, food trucks, and live music. The Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery is a non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate and promote the arts in the Lawton community as well as Southwestern Oklahoma. The gallery hosts six art exhibitions per year in addition to lectures and musical performances.
