May 1, 1971: Amtrak Begins Service
The United States decided to get its railways back on track by starting Amtrak services on May 1, 1971. This national railroad service made its debut and would go on to become the go-to for scenic views and the gentle rocking that puts me to sleep – I mean, a traveler’s delight.
BTW, I believe some people are still waiting on the 4:15 from Omaha...
