Get Ready to Go Behind the Badge: Lawton's Junior Citizens Police Academy Awaits

The Lawton Police Department is gearing up for its highly anticipated Junior Citizens Police Academy, happening from July 21 to July 25. This week-long program promises to give local kids a chance to see what really goes on behind the badge—not just the cool lights and flashy cars, but the gritty work that keeps our communities safe. Ever wanted to know what a SWAT team really does? Or how a police dog decides who to sniff? Here’s your chance to find out!

Classes will be held at Trinity Assembly, located at 202 SE 45th Street. Kids will dive into various police operations, from crime scene investigations to bike patrol. Who knows, they might even pick up tips for their upcoming detective-themed birthday parties! And while kids are having a blast learning, parents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their little ones are engaging in something positive.

For anyone interested in signing up, the Community Outreach Program Division is your go-to contact. Parents can reach out at 580-581-3569. Or, if you’re feeling especially curious, give Sergeant Matt Dimmitt a call at 580-351-7081. Talk about getting connected with your local law enforcement! So, what do you think—would this have been your dream summer camp as a child?
