Chew Crew Takes Over: How Goats Became Vermont's New Eco-Friendly Landscapers!

Move over traditional landscapers; the new crew on the block at Jay Peak Ski Resort is a flock of 150 goats and sheep, affectionately known as the “Chew Crew.” These furry workers are munching their way through the slopes, keeping weeds at bay and doing what they do best—grazing while promoting sustainability. With a digital fencing system in place, the goats are guided as they nibble their way through 25 acres, bringing a whole new meaning to “green landscaping.”

It’s an ingenious move that not only keeps the resort looking pristine during the summer months but also cuts down on the use of pesticides and fossil fuels. Who needs noisy machines when you can have adorable animals doing the heavy lifting, all while providing a calming ambiance of bleating and munching? It’s like giving Mother Nature a hand while enjoying a view of the mountains. Talk about multitasking!

If this pilot program proves effective, we’re likely to see these fluffballs back next year for a more extensive operation. It’s a smart choice for the environment and a fun twist on the usual summer maintenance routine. So, here’s a question for you: Would you welcome a goat (or two) into your own backyard for some natural lawn care? It might just be your lawn’s new best friend!
