Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, has died. Us Weekly confirmed the death on Sunday, September 20. He was at a rehab facility at the time, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, and a cause of death has not been released. The family has asked for privacy during what they called a difficult and painful time.

Just months before his death, Presley spoke publicly about his own mental health journey. In June, he took part in a mental health panel at the Aviator Nation x We Are Enough launch party in Malibu, where his mother was in the crowd to support him. Journalist Vanessa Powell, who attended, remembered him as “kind, vulnerable, and inspiring.” At that event, Presley said, “I’m gonna be very human for everyone. There’s only so much you can hide from the world.”

His sister, actress and model Kaia Gerber, told Vogue in August about watching his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, saying the experience leveled their family and that she was proud of him for using his story to help others. His final months were spent trying to turn something painful into something useful for other people.
