Kelly Clarkson has covered just about everything on Kellyoke, but she says one song nearly got the best of her. During a visit to Late Night With Seth Meyers, Clarkson revealed that “Golden,” the chart-topping track from KPop Demon Hunters, was the hardest cover of her talk show’s seven-year run. It also happened to be the most requested Kellyoke by fans, which is why she saved it for the final episode. “It took me forever to place it to where I didn’t sound like a dying cat,” she told Meyers.

 

The struggle was real behind the scenes. Clarkson taped two additional backup versions of the song that she said did not sound good, and her son Remington kept wandering by to point out how high the track sits. The song went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, so the pressure was on from every direction. Clarkson’s verdict on the whole experience: “It made me its b–ch. A little bit.”

There’s plenty more on Clarkson’s plate. She reflected on the recent death of Dolly Parton, and she’s returning to The Voice for season 30, premiering Sept. 22 on NBC at 8 p.m. ET, coaching alongside Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green.
