Oklahoma Early Voting Tops 229,000 as Election Day Arrives

More than 229,000 Oklahomans had already voted by the time Election Day arrived, according to the State Election Board. That includes 186,488 people who voted early in person and 42,669 mail-in ballots as of Thursday. Statewide, early in-person voting leaned Republican: 89,779 Republicans, 71,679 Democrats, 24,250 independents and 780 Libertarians.

Comanche County told a different story. Democrats outvoted Republicans at early polling sites here, 1,951 to 1,422, even though Republicans make up 53.2% of Oklahoma’s roughly 2.4 million registered voters and lead registration in all 77 counties. Two Lawton voters told The Lawton Constitution they’d cast straight-ticket Democratic ballots, citing frustration with the current direction of state and national politics.

Polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and votes will be counted after they close. If you haven’t voted yet, there’s still time to get to your precinct. Early numbers show enthusiasm, but Election Day decides the rest.

Did you vote early this year, or are you waiting until today? Let us know in the comments.
